Leadership Crisis in Malaysia

 

As I was born and brought up in Malaysia, I always wanted a peaceful and safe country. Building a nation is not an easy job. No matter what people say, politic is the mastermind of all national’s agenda. Well I accept that politic is dirty, full of lies, and so on. But, every citizen’s fate is decided by the politicians chosen by the people.

Recently, I conducted an informal research on how many leaders, especially politic leaders whom graduated from the Institut Pengajian Tinggi Awam(IPTA). This research is to know how far our education system could produce caliber leaders.

Let us start from the highest rank which is the Prime Minister. Since 1957 till now, we had six PMs. Can u believe that only 1 PM is from IPTA which turn out to be Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamed from Universiti Malaya (UM). While the rest are graduates from overseas.

To my surprise, only less than 20 % of the current cabinet decided on 9^th of April 2009 are from IPTA. These are the ministers from IPTA :

 If we look into the Opposition coalition, only a few are from IPTA, whom are Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim (UM), Sivarasa(UM), Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Khalid Ibrahim (UM), Teresa Kok (USM), Nasharuddin Mat Isa (UiTM), and Hatta Ramli (UKM). While the rest are again surprisingly graduates from overseas(I could not find all the details of the opposition leaders).

In conclusion, it clearly proves that there are only a few leaders from local universities. Is our education system still capable to produce quality leaders or we still have to depend on overseas graduates to rule our country? We really hope our local universities will buck up to produce more outstanding leaders in the coming years.
